Methanol from Palm Oil

Description

Biodiesel is a biofuel derived from renewable biomass for use in internal combustion engines with compression ignition or other type of energy that can replace all or part of a non-renewable fuel source.

Biodiesel is biodegradable, non -toxic, with low emission

profiles and is accordingly considered environmentally friendly.

The use of biodiesel in the transport sector, specifically in conventional internal combustion engines, reduces

emissions of unburned hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide, sulfates, aromatic compounds and

partical matter.

These reductions are increased with increasing the content of biodiesel in the blend, so that when 100% biodiesel is used in engines emissions are reduced by up to 75%

when compared with those made using conventional diesel oil.

The technical characteristics of the product make it fully compatible to be mixed with diesel

derived from the oil industry.

The quality specifications of a fuel and/or biofuels aim to ensure that the product can be used in engines and that do not cause failure during use.

The biofuel must always be visually free of un dissolved water, sediment and suspended particles.

(1)The values for these parameters should be set in the specific technicalstandards to be

defined for any biodiesel-diesel imix ofany proportion. The defined values should be

supported by tests by accredited laboratories and certified by a competent authority.

(2)The residual carbon should be determinedfor100% of the sample.

(3)It is recommended to supplement with ASTMD4625 method,withmaxi/mum levels of

1.5mg/100ml to 6weeks.

NOTE:The reference net calorific value reported by the ASTMD240 method should be around 39500kj/kg.
